Best Teacher

“You are the best teacher I have ever had”

It is common to hear that the student or a learner would describe his/her teacher, and sometimes actually I have been called the best teacher by some of my students, of course, I get flattered, however, it gets my attention asking myself, am I really of the best teachers they have ever had?! but why!! what am i doing is different than the others. probably the other teachers have been told the same. I notice with most of the teachers the same in the same classroom, you may find some of the students who adore his way of teaching, his character, and some others may not find him interesting I suppose it depends on your definition of “best”, Kindest? Fairest? Funniest? Should the qualities of a good teacher be defined solely by student achievement? Or should they encompass traits more difficult to measure such as the capacity to connect emotionally with children?

Teaching is not an easy profession, not easy at all. Sometimes I say to myself, Oh God; please take me away, very far away, why have I put myself if such a place, it is so frustrating job, I hate these kids, I hate myself, I hate everyone”. However, then I find out that I’m being over the top with my drama. they are just kids, they need a special way of communicating, I don’t have to expect that much from them, it is not fair for them to be expected that they see things the way teachers see, deal with, and experience. One day I have been told by one student at one of my open discussion classes: “Being a nice and a kind teacher doesn’t mean that is the only about adding to the peach words like “Thank you, please, or Good job” it is way further than that, we - students - don’t think that way”. Teachers are human though, they suffer from frustration, stress, and much workload such as paperwork, preparation of data shows, exams, correcting the notebooks, administration work, watching the student’s behavior, and the school system that gets updated literally every week, being a teacher is not only standing at the classroom trying to help students to get better to get higher marks on the exams. it is way further than that, I find what the teachers do in the classroom is only 10 % of what they do behind the scenes.

So on this page I will share my experience with different types of teachers who I have worked, dealt with, or read about, and how can each one of them can be “THE BES TEACHER” in his way. What makes them special,
